U.S. vows to end weapons smuggling via border with Mexico

    MEXICO CITY, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. government pretends to end the illegal sales of weapons through its border with Mexico, visiting U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday in Monterrey, capital of the province Nuevo Leon, north Mexico.

    Clinton, who arrived in Mexico on Wednesday for a two-day official visit, made the statement at a conference at the TecMilenio University in Monterrey.

    Mexican President Felipe Calderon had requested a bigger U.S. government co-responsibility in the fight against organized crimes, mainly to control weapons that enter Mexico and the money laundering related to organized crimes.

    Clinton, giving the conference on the ties Mexico-U.S., said that one of the most important agreements reached during her visit was on the creation of a bilateral office in Mexico to coordinate joint actions against organized crimes and drug trafficking.

    Clinton also hailed the announcement by the U.S. government on offering Mexico over 80 million U.S. dollars to buy "Blackhawk" helicopters to combat organized crimes.
