BEIRUT, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) deputy representative in Lebanon Kamal Medhat along with at least two bodyguards were killed Monday by a roadside bomb near the entrance of Miyeh Miyeh Palestinian refugee camp in south Lebanon, Al-Manar TV reported.

PLO security official Munir Maqdah has confirmed the death of Kamal Medhat, the report said.

Meanwhile, PLO office in Lebanon announced in a statement sent to reporters that Kamal Medhat and two of his bodyguards were killed Monday in an explosion targeting his car at the entrance of the refugee camp on the outskirt of the port city of Sidon.

Local LBC TV said that the bombing was aimed at PLO representative in Lebanon Abbas Zaki, but his assistant Medhat was killed.

Media reports said that Palestinian factions inside Ain el-Helweh and Miyeh Mieyh camps were on high alert, while the Lebanese army have beefed up security around the camps.

Miyeh Miyeh, which is under PLO's control, is one of the 12 Palestinian refugee camps located in Lebanon.

Palestinian camps in Lebanon have become a safe haven to many extremist and fundamentalist groups, and clashes among Palestinian factions erupted from time to time.

Earlier on Friday, clashes erupted at dawn inside the very camp, and eased down later in the day.
