TAIYUAN, China, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The 2009 Women's Wrestling World Cup will kick off in northern China's Shanxi Province on Saturday.
The two-day tournament has attracted more than 100 athletes from eight countries and regions, such as Canada, Japan, Ukraine, Russia, Mongolia and the host China.
Up to now, all the preparations for the Cup have been completed, sources with local government said.
The draw made in a press conference on Friday divided the eight teams into two groups: Japan, China, Belarus and the United States; Canada, Mongolia, Ukraine and Russia. Winners of the two groups will finally strive for the title.
As one of the highest-level worldwide wrestling competitions, the World Cup was designed only for team event and only the top eight teams of the world can get the tickets to compete, according to the regulations made by the International Wrestling Association.
