President Hu to attend G20 financial summit in Britain

    BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao will attend the Group of 20 (G20) financial summit in Britain scheduled for April 1-2, at the invitation of the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang announced here Friday.

    BRUSSELS, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming G20 Summit in London will serve mainly as a confidence-building stage, says a Belgian expert in political and economic affairs.

Minister: G20 meeting sends positive signal, boosts confidence

    HORSHAM, Britain, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting sent a positive signal that the international community is rising unitedly to the economic and financial challenges, Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren said here Saturday.

    As the financial crisis continues to spread and bites harder from one country to another, solidarity achieved at the meeting will help boost market confidence and stabilize economic and financial conditions, Xie told Chinese reporters shortly after the meeting.  Full story

EU summit to assess economic stimulus plan, coordinate position for G20 meeting

    BRUSSELS, Mar. 18 (Xinhua) -- The two-day summit of the European Union starting on Thursday will mainly assess the effect of the current economic stimulus plan and prepare for the G20 summit, to be held on April 2 in London.

    First of all, the leaders of the 27-nation EU member states will evaluate the efficiency and effect of the 200-billion-euro economic stimulus plan, put forward by the European Commission in November to contain the impact of the global crisis and stimulate the recovery of the economy.  Full story
