DPRK's parliament to convene first meeting in early April

    PYONGYANG, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The parliament of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will convene its first meeting on April 9, the official news agency said on Friday.

    "The Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly on March 16 announced a decision on convening the meeting," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

    The First Session of the 12th parliament will be convened in Pyongyang on April 9, it said.

    The DPRK parliamentary election was wrapped up on March 9 and all of the 687 candidates were elected to the 12th Supreme People's Assembly.

    Kim Jong Il, top leader of the DPRK who registered in the Constituency No. 333, was unanimously elected to a seat in the parliament.

    The election committee announced a list of the members of the 12th SPA after the elections.

    The SPA is DPRK's highest legislative body. The 11th SPA election was held in 2003 with 687 members elected.
