BEIJING, March 8 -- China is ready to cooperate with
the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama to improve ties, Foreign
Minister Yang Jiechi said Saturday.
Yang said China and the United States shared broad
common interests and he hoped they could improve exchanges, coordination and
cooperation.
Sound bite: Yangjiechi, Chinese Foreign Minister,
said:" I think people have fair judgment regarding the causes of financial
crisis, lessons of the crisis should be learned. The pressing task now is that
all countries must work all together to make the up-coming financial summit in
London a success.
"We believe the up-coming London Financial Summit
should play a role in boosting the publics' confidence, strengthening the
countries' coordination on their micro economic policies, stabilizing financial
markets, undertaking necessary reforms in the international financial system and
international financial supervision system and helping developing countries to
achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
"In this regard, we are ready to work with the United
States and other countries in the world to weather the storm and make joint
effort to take over the difficulties caused by the financial crisis."
He confirmed plans for a meeting between Chinese
President Hu Jintao and President Obama on the sidelines of April's G20 summit
in London.
The meeting will be the first between the two leaders
since Obama took office in January.
