3.4 Establishment of Tibet Autonomous Region

On September 8, 1965, deputies to the first session of the 1st Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress elected the chairman and vice chairman of the regional government and members of the regional people's committee. Ngapoi Ngawang Jigme was elected chairman of the People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region.


People of various ethnic groups in Tibet cast votes in exercise of their right as masters of the society.


People of Ngaqen Township, Lhasa, hold wheat heads in a parade to celebrate the foundation of Tibet Autonomous Region.
