TEHRAN, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister
Manouchehr Mottaki said Wednesday that the first stage of the operation of
Bushehr power plant would start in summer, the official IRNA news agency
"The first stage of Bushehr nuclear power plant will
come on stream in summer," Mottaki said.
Despite barriers to the implementation of the
project, Iran's Foreign Ministry and Atomic Energy Organization of Iran are
doing their best to successfully finalize the project, IRNA quoted him as saying
without elaborating on the barriers.
"There is no problem with Russia in terms of
diplomacy and relations and there is no justification for any delay," he said,
adding that "If there appears any change in Russia's stand to this effect, Iran
will take very clear position in dealing with it."
Last Wednesday, Sergei Kiriyenko, head of Russia's
Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation, said that no exact time for the final
launch of Iran's Bushehr atomic power plant could be specified.
The country's 1,000-megawatt nuclear power plant
originally started in the mid-1970s by Siemens of Germany but was abandoned with
the outbreak of the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iran and Russia, after reaching an agreement on
nuclear cooperation in 1992, signed a contract in January 1995 to finish the
construction of the plant, the completion of which has been repeatedly delayed.
