BEIJING, Feb. 28 -- Terrifying waves lash the
shore and the roar makes you shudder through the canvass.
Zhou Zhihui, a renowned Chinese traditional painter,
is exhibiting his past 30 years' work, devoted to the power of the ocean.
Under Zhou's brush, it is vivid and dramatic - every
wave has its own unique appearance.
In Terrifying Waves Beating the Shore, soaring waves
turn up in the black sea level by level, revealing that wind and rain are on
their way. It looks like the whole shore is embraced by the tide.
In White Waves Dashing to the Sky, silver waves boil
in the vast sea as white seagulls fly in the blue sky overhead.
The decades of devotion have made Zhou, 51, a unique
ocean painter. He was born by Dongting Lake in Hunan province, whose beautiful
scenery and South China culture have combined to endow him with a rare talent.
Zhou joined the navy at 18 and his extensive travels
helped him appreciate its splendid power.
In the past 40 years, he has been inspired both by
traveling through all the world's great oceans and by visiting about 3,600
islands.
9 a.m.-4 p.m., today. The Exhibition is on the show
in The Cultural Palace of Nationalities. Tel: 6602-4433.
