HARBIN, Northeast China, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Canada trounced Slovakia 10-1
in the women's ice hockey semifinals to set up a championship clash with the
winner of the match between Finland and the host China at the 24th Winter
Universiade here on Thursday.
Canada opened scoring quite early at 3:11 minute as forward Marleve Provost
help her team to take the lead. Carly Hill added one more goal at 19:59 to
finish the first period at 2-0.
Slovakia tried hard to put a shot at 32:56 but one goal was far from enough
to change the situation when Canada controlled the game since the start to the
last minute, scoring eight more goals in two periods to settle the match.
Earlier in the day, Japan blanked Britain 10-0 to clinch the fifth place in
the women's ice hockey standings. South Korea eased past Britain 3-0 to take the
fifth place in the men's standings.
