KATHMANDU, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Sherpa and different other ethnic groups
living in Himalayan region are to observe Lhosar Festival for two days from
Wednesday in Nepali capital Kathmandu, Nepali national news agency RSS reported
on Tuesday.
Lhosar festival is celebrated to commemorate the advent of new year, mainly
by Tibetan people in China and socio-culturally close ethnics like Sherpas in
Nepal.
The festival is being observed each year that demonstrates the folk
cultures of the Himalayan regions, in the north of Nepal.
Different folk cultures, food items and cultural programs would be
exhibited in the festival with different groups, according to the report.
On the occasion, special performance would be conducted as per Buddhist
tradition in Tundikhel, Kathmandu, on Wednesday.
Lhosar Festival is being observed in different 18 districts out of the
total 75 districts of the country. The festival was celebrated before seventh
century in Nepal, according to RSS.
Sherpas are extremely famous for renowned high-altitude workers and
excellent mountaineers.
