BEIJING, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- At present, further developing Chinese-U.S. ties is more essential than ever before, and both sides need to seize the opportunity and meet the challenges together to push forward their relationship, which is the most important of bilateral relationships globally in this century.

The global financial crisis has provided a chance for China and the United States to reinforce mutual trust and cooperation. The two countries should join hands to tackle the crisis and pull the world economy out of the quagmire at an early date.

During U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's just-concluded visit to China, both sides agreed to increase communication and coordination in the face of the financial crisis and work together to lead the Group of 20 summit in London in April to tangible results.

It is therefore imperative that China and the United States improve and give full play to their bilateral mechanisms, strengthen consultation and coordination in multilateral frameworks, oppose trade and investment protectionism in all formsand take measures to tide over the current economic difficulties.

Faced with a series of major and pressing issues in the world, China and the United States have even broader common interests and basis for cooperation. The two countries should increase dialogue and communication, reinforce mutual trust and cooperation.

As the international situation is undergoing complicated and profound changes and the world is seeing growing global challenges, China and the United States should expand cooperation in the bilateral framework and on international and regional issues to effectively deal with the challenges.

It also helps the international community gain strength and build up confidence in overcoming the global challenges.

The Chinese-U.S. ties are standing at a new starting point. For the advance of ties, both sides need to address each other's core interests and enrich their relations of constructive cooperation from a strategic height and a long-term perspective.

Since the two countries established diplomatic relations 30 years ago, the bilateral ties have made remarkable progress, the strategic basis has become stronger and ties of mutual benefit have become closer.

Since the new U.S. administration assumed office, both sides have reached major consensus on developing the Chinese-U.S. ties in a new era.

During Clinton's stay in Beijing, she and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi agreed in principle to a strategic and economic dialogue between the two countries, which will facilitate closer dialogue on the strategic, comprehensive and long-term issues in political, diplomatic and economic areas.

The last three decades have shown that cooperation for a win-win result is the only right path for Chinese-U.S. relations.

In the face of the complex and changing international political and economic situation, China and the United States need to tide over the difficulties together and work jointly to push forward their relationship.
