Special Report: Reconstruction After Earthquake
BEIJING, Feb. 17 --It's the ploughing season and
farmers in quake-devastated Wenchuan areas are busy working in the fields.
Villager Han Luxue has grown 24 peach trees and more
than a hundred plum trees. Under farm technician guidance, she is carefully
treating her plants with pesticide sprays.
SOUNDBITE: Han Luxue, a villager
"We may earn more than 10,000 yuan this year from harvesting peaches and plums. I must work hard to make full use of the government's relief policies."
The 8.0 magnitude earthquake ruined irrigation systems and
houses in most villages in Wenchuan, the hardest hit areas in Sichuan Province.
Nine months after the tragedy, survivors hope to put the quake behind by working
hard to rebuild.
SOUNDBITE: Chen Xingfu,
chief of the village committee
"We plan to rebuild the tunnels and ponds broken by the earthquake, and we'll not let crops ruin in the fields again. People are resolved to pick up the pieces and get their life back."
