Love in the air -- Happy Valentine's Day

BEIJING, Feb. 15 -- February the 14th is a big day for business and lovers. Here at a flower shop in Hong Kong, male buyers aren't taking prices into consideration when trying to please their sweethearts. On Valentine's day, it's that attitude which show owners are trying to capitalize on.

Soundsite: Hong Kong Florist Cheng Sau Ying The price nearly doubled, a 300-yuan-bouquet costs 600 now.

Cheng says the prices of flowers are the same as last year at this time, but the number of orders has decreased. Besides economic downturn, there's another reason attributed to this phenomenon.

Soundbite: Chairwoman of Hong Kong Flower Retailers' Association Elizabeth Tse Wong Siu-yin This year's Valentine's Day is on Saturday, that many Hong Kong employees do not have to go to work. Some couples plan to take a trip to other places, so that they don't buy flowers in Hong Kong.

For others, money is no object. At a Valentine's Wedding Service Expo in Hong Kong, wedding gowns and fashionable evening dresses attracted the attention of Miss Wong who will get married in November. She says price is not a problem when it comes to the dress she will wear at the most imporatant moment of her life.

Soundsite: Wedding Dress Customer Miss Wong I don't care if the wedding dress is expensive or cheap as long as it’s beautiful.

But for some- this Valentine's day is all about the gesture- not how much money is spent on gifts.

Soundbite: Hong Kong Resident The economic crisis has little effect on us, because the gift I sent to my boyfriend could not be bought with money, but are handmade small gifts.
