SHENZHEN, South China, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Like a replay of the Beijing
Olympic Games, Chen Ruolin came back from behind in the last round one more time
to snatch the women's 10-meter platform title at the 15th FINA Diving Grand Prix
here on Friday.
The 16-year-old Chen led through the preliminaries and semifinals, but
placed second behind fellow Kang Li for four points in the final after fourth
dives.
In her fifth and last dive, Chen scored 86.70 points to win the gold medal
in 418.20 while Kang had to concede for a silver in 415.25.
Two Malaysians, Pandelela Rinong and Traisy Vivian came to third and fourth
while Tam Lok Man from Hong Kong, China placed fifth.
During the Beijing Olympic Games last year, Chen also shocked her rivals by
winning the platform champion with a 100.30 game-high score for her last dive,
though she was behind Canadian veteran Emilie Heymans after the fourth round.
China had lost the women's platform golds since 2000 Sydney Olmpic Games.
Since the Shenzhen Grand Prix is the first international event in 2009,
Chen admitted: "I didn't perform my best in the final. I guess I'm a little bit
tired today because I have competed in preliminary, semi and final within one
day. "
"It's my first international meet since the Beijing Olympic Games. I need
to forget the fame and start from zero, " Chen said.
Chen will compete in platform synchro on Feb. 14, together with her new
partner Kang Li because her Olympic champion partner Wang Xin had an eye
operation last year.
The three-day Shenzhen Grand Prix will end on Feb. 15.
