KATHMANDU, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Visiting United States Assistant Secretary
of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Richard Boucher has said that the
United States wanted to have very good relations with the Nepali government and
wanted to support the country's constitution-writing process.
Boucher met with Nepali Prime Minister Prachanda, Defense Minister Ram
Bahadur Thapa, Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav and Foreign Secretary Gyan Chandra
Acharya here on Wednesday.
"I had constructive meetings with the prime minister and the defense
minister," Boucher said after meeting with Prachanda at the latter's office in
Kathmandu.
"The U.S. wants very good relations with the government of Nepal and wants
to support the constitution-writing process," he said, adding "U.S. will
continue to work with the people of Nepal."
He said the issue of removing U.S. terror tag on Communist Party of Nepal
(Maoist) (CPN-M) was also discussed during the meeting with the prime minister.
Boucher is the highest U.S. official to visit Nepal for the first time
since the CPN-M led the government in August 2008.
Boucher arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday for a two-day visit to the
country.
