Belgian businessman kidnapped in Mexican Caribbean

    MEXICO CITY, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- An armed group had kidnapped a Belgian businessmen at a nightclub in the beach of Mexican Caribbean, local daily Milenio reported Sunday.

    Kurt Jansen, who is well-known in social and business circles in the sate of Quintana Roo, was taken away early Tuesday morning by a group of "strongly armed men" who were dressed in black, the paper said.

    Jansen was the owner of the Bocaccio nightclub where he was kidnapped.

    The kidnappers were demanding two million U.S. dollars of ransom.

    Luis Felipe Ortiz Seca, director of the local Judicial Police, told reporters that Jansen's relatives had decided not to call the police, in case that Jansen's life would be at risk.

    So, judicial authorities from the Preventive Police and from Public Security of the state are out of the issue now because there is no intervention request.
