Special report: Pakistani Situation

NEW DELHI, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- India said on Sunday that it is keeping "all options open" if Pakistan does not soon take necessary action against those held responsible by India for the Mumbai terrorist attacks last November.

"Nobody should think that the great country is helpless to deal with the situation. We repeat that all options are still open before us," Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said at a meeting of the ruling Congress Party.

The Minister said that the Pakistan government must honor its commitment to act against what he called "the terror elements operating from its soil".

"Don't try to divert the attention of the international community. Act now and bring the forces behind terrorist acts to justice," he said.

However, he also pointed out that the fight against terrorism was not against any religion, as "religion has nothing to do with terrorism. It (terrorism) does not respect borders".

The Mumbai attacks were a series of ten coordinated terrorist attacks across the country's financial capital. India says the attacks were carried out by Pakistan-based terror outfit Lasker-e-Toiba from November 26 to 29 last year.

At least 173 people were killed and at least 308 injured in the attacks which ended following an operation by India's National Security Guards.

Meanwhile, Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor said on Sunday "surgical strikes" against terrorist targets in Pakistan are "militarily feasible" although such actions must be made with political decisions.

"But whether you wish to take that decision or not is a separate issue," PTI quoted him as saying.

Pakistan has denied any involvement in the Mumbai attacks.
