BAGHDAD, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. soldier was killed as a result of a non-combat related injury in Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, the U.S. military said Saturday.

The incident took place on Saturday near the town of Balad Ruz, some 40 km south of the provincial capital of Baquba, a military statement said.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement said, adding that the incident is under investigation.

About 4,237 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in Iraq in March 2003, according to media count based on pentagon figures.
