Nigeria, Pakistan vow to forge closer military ties 2009-01-28 20:09:45   Print

    LAGOS, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria and Pakistan will continue to maintain closer relations in the areas of training and transfer of technology, Nigeria's Minister of Defense Shittima Musa said on Tuesday.

    Musa, who made the remark when the Pakistan High Commissioner to Nigeria Khalid Durrani paid him a courtesy visit, said the two countries have very cordial relations.

    According to him, there has been areas where the two countries have worked successfully together for the mutual benefit of their people. He said that some Nigerian military personnel and other professionals are trained in Pakistan.

    "You have been helping and I believe you will continue to help as Pakistan professionals, teachers, university professors and doctors, who come to this country to work, have been very helpful," Musa said.

    Earlier, Durrani had noted that the two countries had maintained beneficial defense cooperation, which had proved useful to Nigeria.

    According to him, the Pakistani Armed Forces will always welcome members of the Nigerian Armed Forces whenever they come to Pakistan for training, noting that his country is also ready to cooperate with Nigeria in the area of technology transfer.
