BEIRUT, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Mohammad Raad, the head of Hezbollah's parliamentary block said Sunday that those who are seeking to strip Hezbollah off its weapons are committing a terrorist crime, local Elnashra website reported.
"Anyone trying to strip us from this right, would be providing support to the terrorist Israeli enemy, and would be committing a terrorist crime," Raad was quoted as saying.
Many pro-government Lebanese factions have been calling for disarming Hezbollah, echoing a U.S.-Israeli plan of disarming them.
"The (Hezbollah) resistance has the right to own and keep its weapons," Raad said.
Hezbollah is the only Shiite Lebanese group who has kept its arms, after all Lebanese parties was disarmed following the 1975-1990 civil war in the country.
Raad, however, stressed that following the Israeli war on Lebanon in 2006 and the recent war on Gaza, the resistance proved to be "the best choice to defend the Lebanese and Palestinian people."
Commenting on the new U.S. administration, Raad said that neither the "charisma, nor the speech of the new U.S. president would deceive us; we are waiting to see their new commitments."
Hezbollah is on the U.S. blacklist of terrorist organizations, while the latter considers the U.S. and Israel as their prime enemies.
