Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Eight Iraqis were killed and one child wounded in an attack by unknown gunmen northeast Baghdad, Iraqi police said on Friday.

    Six women and two men were killed, in Bladrouz 30 km south Baquba, capital of Diyala province, when an unknown group attacked by machine-gun a primitive brick factory at dawn, a provincial police told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

    A child was also injured in the attack, the police source added.

    The gunmen escaped after the attack and the police launched the investigations to capture the criminals, said the source.
