KABUL, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Two police were killed and two more including one civilian sustained injuries as a bicycle bomb rocked Taliban former stronghold Kandahar in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, provincial administration spokesman Zalmai Ayubi said.

"The gruesome incident occurred in Kandahar city, the capital of Kandahar province, at 1:30 p.m. local time (0900 GMT) killing two police on the spot and wounding two others including one police and one passerby," Ayubi told Xinhua.

He blamed the attack on the enemies of peace, a term referred to the Taliban insurgents.

The explosion took place while the first day of voter registration for the upcoming elections in Afghanistan commenced formally in Kandahar.

Three more suicide attacks and roadside bombing hit the capital city Kabul and eastern Khost province on Saturday and Monday respectively leaving over two dozen people mostly civilians dead and injured.

Conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have left more than 5,000 people dead with some 2,000 civilians and 294 foreign troops in 2008, despite some 70,000-strong international troops stationed in militancy-plagued Afghanistan.
