JERUSALEM, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Most of the people arrested by Israeli army in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip are not connected with any group on the country's blacklist, revealed local news service Ynet on Tuesday.
Over 200 Palestinians have been arrested and brought to Israel for questioning since the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched the ground incursion on Jan. 3, yet fewer than 30 have been found to have connections with Hamas or any other group listed by the Jewish state as a terrorist organization, said the report.
In light of the "disappointing" data, Israel has decided to abandon a plan to set up a judiciary facility for interrogation and classification of the detainees, added the report.
The IDF and Shin Bet security agency have said that the 18-day-old offensive, dubbed Operation Cast Lead, has inflicted heavy losses upon Hamas, including the deaths of several hundreds of its gunmen. The Islamist group was estimated to have some 20,000 members.
Over 950 people have been killed so far in the Palestinian enclave, among whom Hamas officials said half were civilians. 13 have died on the Israeli side.
