AMMAN, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Jordan military on Tuesday denied any gunfire from the kingdom to Israel, dismissing such reports as "baseless."

"It is not true," said a military source, who refused to be named, adding that there is no fire against Israeli troops from southern Jordan.

Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said an Israeli security patrol was attacked on Tuesday by fire from the Jordanian side of the Israel-Jordan border.

The Border Guard unit returned fire near the Rabin Border Crossing with Jordan, some three km north of Israel's southernmost city of Eilat, said the IDF, adding that no casualty or damage was reported.

This dispute came as Israel's military offensive on the Gaza Strip entered its 18th day, which has claimed over 900 Palestinians and wounded more than 4,100 others. Meanwhile, 13 have been killed on the Israeli side.

Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994, becoming the second Arab state after Egypt making peace with the Jewish country.
