    BANGKOK, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Thai government will give humanitarian assistance to the affected Palestinians in the Gaza Strip after Israeli forces launched a military attacks on the Palestinian militant Islamist group Hamas, Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday.

    The ministry said that the Thai government has been following with grave concern the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip which has claimed hundreds of innocent lives and left thousands injured.

    For humanitarian reasons and in response to the call by the U.N. and the international community for urgent humanitarian assistance, Thailand will provide an immediate financial contribution of 28,000 U.S. dollars to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to address the emergency needs of the people affected by the conflict in Gaza.
