GENEVA, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from cholera in Zimbabwe has risen to 1,732 with a total of 34,306 cases, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Tuesday.

In its latest update, the U.N. agency said all 10 provinces of the African nation have been affected by the epidemic, which broke out in August.

On Monday alone, 751 new cases and 59 deaths were reported, the agency said.

The quick spread of the disease is mainly due to the collapse of Zimbabwe's health and sanitation systems amid severe economic troubles, according to U.N. agencies.
