ANKARA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police seized 50 kg of heroin and 30 kg of hashish in southern provinces of Mersin and Hatay on Friday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
The Turkish police confiscated 50 kg of heroin in an operation in Tarsus town of Mersin and detained two suspected people, according to the report.
Acting on a tip-off, the Turkish police waged an operation and seized 30 kg of hashish in Belen town of Hatay, said the report, adding that six people were detained in connection with the haul.
Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in Western Europe.
