BEIRUT, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese and Palestinian leftist youth organizations, who have been staging sit-ins to protest the Israeli attacks on Gaza, threw old shoes at the fences of the Egyptian embassy in Beirut Friday, Elnashra website reported.

The demonstrators were protesting against the removal of Palestinian flags by the embassy security, which were planted by protesters earlier this week.

The surroundings of the Egyptian embassy in west Beirut witnessed riots and violence Last Sunday, when protesters burned tiers denouncing the closure of Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side, and riot police separated them by force, using tear gas and water pipes.

Leaders of the Shiite armed group Hezbollah have been launching fierce verbal attacks against the regime in Egypt.

Hezbollah chief Hasan Nasrallah called the Egyptian people to take the streets "in millions" to pressure their leaders into opening the crossing with the Gaza Strip.
