KABUL, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Taliban commander Muhammed Bobi was killed on
Tuesday during a targeted operation in eastern Afghan province of Logar, some 80
kilometers away from capital city of Kabul, said a statement of NATO troops
based here.
Muhammed Bobi was killed in Pol-e Alam district as a result of an overnight
joint operation by Afghan National Security Force (ANSF) and the NATO-led
International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), the statement said.
It added that Bobi, who has facilitated suicide bombing attacks and a
history of involvement in numerous crimes in the area, attempted to attack ANSF
members during the operation when the joint forces returned fire killing him.
"Bobi's death will have a significant effect on the Taliban's ability to
conduct operations in the province," said ISAF spokesman Brigadier General
Richard Blanchette.
Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have claimed more than
5,000 people with over 2,000 civilians so far this year despite over
70,000-strong international troops stationed in strife-torn
Afghanistan.
