BEIRUT, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Druze opposition leader Wiam Wahab, Monday accused pro-government Druze leader Walid Joumblat of attempting to assassinate him during an overnight shooting incident in the Chouf mountains, local NBN TV reported.
The incident took place Sunday night in the predominantly Druze Chouf mountain between Wahab's supporters and members of Joumblat's Progressive Socialist Party.
Wahab said the incident was an assassination attempt from Joumblat's side.
"I am attending a kid's birthday party at my sister's house, bullets showered from Joumblat's men over the house," Wahab told reporters.
"Revenge it shall be if Joumblat crosses the redline," Wahab added.
The Lebanese army, which interfered immediately to control the situation Sunday night, said in a statement that troops intervened and contained the incident "between two political parties."
Clashes between Wahab and Joumblat supporters have been increasing recently, which seldom took place before inside the Druze community in Lebanon.
