CAIRO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa stressed on Thursday that it is important for the Arab world to enhance economic cooperation in face of the current global financial crisis.
Moussa made the remarks at an extraordinary session of the Arab Socio-economic Council on Thursday in preparation for an upcoming Arab economic summit in Kuwait.
The AL chief said boosting trade and investments among Arab countries can help avoid the negative impacts of the financial crisis in the Arab world, according to the Egyptian MENA news agency.
The Cairo-based pan-Arab organization will call for an emergency meeting of Arab finance ministers, heads of Arab central banks and monetary institutions to discuss means of riding out the economic crisis, said Moussa.
During the Arab Socio-economic Council extraordinary session, Arab ministers of finance and economy tackled preparations for the socio-economic summit that was set to be held in Kuwait in January,2009.
The agenda and proposed projects of the economic summit was reviewed in the session.
Prior to the Socio-economic Council extraordinary meeting, a preparatory ministerial committee of the Arab socio-economic summit that includes Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Qatar held a closed consultative meeting on the preparation works of the planned summit.
