Disabled persons honored in Myanmar for wonderful skills

    YANGON, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- A total of 22 outstanding disabled persons in Myanmar were honored by the government for their wonderful skills and talents, the official newspaper New Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.

    The 22 were awarded at a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw Wednesday, held by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons.

    Major-General Maung Maung Swe, the minister, who revealed at the ceremony that the government has established one training school for the disabled adults, one for disabled children, two for the blind and one for the deaf in Yangon, Mandalay and Sagaing, adding that volunteering organizations also set up schools for them in the country.

    He stressed that the government is giving priority to uplifting the dignity of the disabled persons in the human society, urging the disabled to strive for showing off more of their skills and talents.

    Researchers said the disability is directly related to the development of a country. Besides, the disability is interrelated with poverty as well as the justice in the social field which is also a matter for social development concerning the whole human society.
