2 U.S. soldiers inquried for abusing detainees in Afghanistan

    KABUL, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- A military investigation on two U.S. service members suspected abusing Afghan prisoners in eastern Afghanistan was launched on Monday, said a statement released by the U.S.-led Coalition forces on Tuesday.

    "An Article 32 investigation commenced today at Forward Operating Base Salerno in eastern Afghanistan to review allegations of detainee abuse and several other lesser offenses by two U.S. service members," the statement said.

    It added that "the initial investigation of Capt. Roger T. Hilland 1st Sgt.Tommy L. Scott, both of 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, was prompted by a report from within the unit about potential detainee abuse."

    However, it did not give any further information about the alleged abuse just saying "A daily press release covering the proceedings will be made available."
