PRISTINA, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Nine Kosovo jailers in a high security prison were arrested on Monday under suspicion that they facilitated the escape of a cop killer.

    Bedri Krasniqi, who was found guilty for murdering two Kosovo police officers, escaped from the Dubrava prison in western Kosovo on Sunday morning, according to local police authorities.

    "His absence was noticed in the evening," said Avni Gjevukaj, a spokesman of Kosovo police for Peja region.

    Krasniqi was sentenced to 27 years in jail in September 2007, when he was found guilty for killing two Kosovo police officers Sebahate Tolaj and Isuf Haklaj in November 2003.

    Kosovo's security forces have increased their search for the fugitive. A direct phone line is opened for the citizens to inform police of any evidences on the fugitive.

    Even it is considered as the most secure prison in Kosovo, seven prisoners escaped from the Dubrava prison in 2007.
