China's ace skater lead team to win three more golds at World Cup short-track

    BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- World Champion Wang Meng of China won title in women's 1,000 meter race at the ISU World Cup short-track to lead China to win three more golds here on Sunday.

    The Turin Olympic gold medallist, 23-year-old Wang Meng, grabbed her second gold in one minute and 31.082 seconds to lead a1-2 finish with teammate Zhou Yang who took silver with 0.089 seconds adrift. South Korean Shin Sae-Bom finished third with a further 0.272 seconds back.

    Wang Meng also won China its first gold as she broke the world record to win in women's 500m group one final on Saturday night.

    "I haven't competed in Beijing for a long time and the crowds today really gave us lots of support," said world champion Wang Meng, "The 2010 Winter Olympics is coming and now we treat every day¡¯s training as the Olympic final."

    Wang Meng, who swept the 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m titles at the world championships last spring, also led China to beat South Korea in women's 3,000m relay. As the bronze medallist in 2008 world championships, China led throughout the final to clinch the fourth gold with a time of four minutes and 7.804 seconds. South Korea took the silver in 4:08.230 and the bronze went to Italy.

    Liu Qiuhong, Fu Tianyu and Zhao Nannan performed a podium-sweep race in women's 500m group two final. The 20-year-old Liu, who was runner-up in the world championships, got off to a fast start and clinched the title in 43.590 seconds. Fu Tianyu and Zhao Nannan touched the line at Liu's heels in 43,617 and 43.749 respectively.

    At the men's race, South Korea showed their dominance with a 1-2 finish when Lee Ho-Suk clinched the gold in men's 1,000m final in one minute and 29.710 seconds and Kwak Yoon-Gy grabbed the silver. Canadian Charles Hamelin, who took title in Saturday's 500m group one final, finished with a bronze.

    The gold of men's 500m group two went to Canadian Olivier Jean and Sung Si-Bak, who edged Jean to take 1,500 meters' title on Saturday, won silver. Chinese Sui Baoku raced to the line for third.

    In men's 5,000 relay, the United States clinched the gold in six minutes and 47.432 seconds and Canada and China won silver and bronze respectively.

    The season's third stop of the six-leg World Cup series raised its curtain in the Capital Gymnasium on Friday. It attracted 179 skaters from 28 countries and regions, featuring five men and five women's events.

    The World Cup series will continue in Japan next week before stops later in Bulgaria and Germany.
