KABUL, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and the U.S.-led Coalition forces killed 17 armed militants and detained 10 more suspects in Kabul province, said a Coalition statement released here on Sunday.

During joint operations on Saturday, ANSF and Coalition forcestargeted a Haqqani foreign fighter facilitator in Zadran District,135 kilometers south of the capital city of Kabul, killing one armed militant and detained 10 suspected militants, the statement said.

"Coalition forces conducted a second operation in Surobi district, 50 kilometers east of Kabul, targeting the hideout of one senior commander in Hizb-e-Islami Gulbuddin (HIG) network," it said. "As Coalition forces approached the targeted buildings, 16 armed militants exited the buildings and began maneuvering on the force."

"The force responded with small-arms fire and precision munitions killing the militants," it added.

Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have claimed the lives of around 5,000 people, mostly militants, so far this year in strife-torn Afghanistan while Taliban insurgents and other anti-government militants have vowed to intensify assaults against interests of the Afghan government and international troops before the coming winter.
