CANBERRA, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said here on Friday he was concerned about the Australians trapped in Mumbai and the officials were trying to contact 36 Australians who were in the areas of Mumbai attacked by terrorists.

The Australian government has confirmed there were about 70 Australians who could have been caught up in the blasts.

"What we were seeking to do is to work our way through that list and to confirm the whereabouts of those individuals," Rudd told the Nine Network.

He said he was "deeply concerned for the well-being of our fellow Australians who we can't track down yet."

"We are still seeking to confirm contact with some 36 people ...we are doing everything possible to establish the whereabouts of those 36," Rudd said.

The prime minister said he feared the number of Australian fatalities could rise.

Indian officials say four Australians have been killed in the Mumbai terrorist attacks, but Canberra has so far confirmed one dead.
