MEXICO CITY, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's proposal at the G20 summit to reform the international financial system has added hope to overcoming the ongoing world financial crisis, said a Mexican scholar in an interview with Xinhua on Thursday.
The proposal shows that President Hu well understands the complexity of the current crisis, said Enrique Dussel Peters, a coordinator of the China-Mexico Studies Center (Cechimex) and professor of the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM).
At the G20 summit in Washington on Nov. 15, Hu urged the international community to earnestly draw lessons from the ongoing financial crisis and undertake necessary reform of the international financial system through full consultations among all stakeholders.
"Reform of the international financial system should aim at establishing a new international financial order that is fair, just, inclusive and orderly and fostering an institutional environment conducive to sound global economic development," Hu said.
Hu said the reform should be conducted in a comprehensive, balanced, incremental and result-oriented manner.
Peters said that the current crisis has gone beyond the financial ambit.
China has a great opportunity to effectively prove its international leadership capability, particularly in the international and regional cooperation fields, Peters said.
