TOKYO, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Japanese government on Thursday condemned the deadly attacks in India and vowed cooperation with the Indian government's fight against terrorism.

Japanese Prime Minister said in a statement that the terrorist attacks are "malicious, contemptible and totally unacceptable" and he expressed his "indignation and condemn in the strongest terms these terrorist acts."

"Japan stands together with the people of India in their fight against terrorism and will cooperate with the Government of India to this end," he said, adding "I wish to express my condolences to the victims and hope for the quick recovery of those injured."

One Japanese was killed and another Japanese was injured in a series of attacks in Mumbai, while the whereabouts of about 50 out of the 250-260 Japanese residents and travelers in the area have not been confirmed, a Foreign Ministry official said Thursday.

The Japanese government set up a liaison office to gather information and coordinate a response to the incident at the crisis management center in the prime minister's office.

At least 100 people were reported dead in near-simultaneous attacks in the Indian financial capital Wednesday night. More than200 were injured.
