BEIRUT, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Head of the Christian Lebanese Forces party
Samir Geagea advised opposition leader MP Michel Aounto refrain from visiting
Syria, local Ad-Dyyiar daily reported Wednesday.
Aoun, the chief of the biggest Christian parliament bloc is expected to
visit Syria for the first time by the end of Nov. despite the long history of
animosity between the two neighbors.
"They have created a traffic jam between Beirut and Damascus, as if there
is no problem between the two countries," Geagea criticized, referring to Aoun's
upcoming visit.
Blaming Syria for 20 assassinations in the past two years, Geagea said, "If
the international tribunal exonerates Syria, then I will apologize.
Syria was accused by the ruling majority in Lebanon to be responsibility
for the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in February
2005. An international investigating committee was set to bring the assassins to
justice.
Syria denied the allegations, but pulled out its troops from Lebanon in
April 2005, after 29 years of political and military presence.
