CAIRO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Egypt will continue to exert its efforts to close ranks of the Palestinians, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossam Zaki said on Tuesday.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Zaki said an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo scheduled for Nov. 26 is an important opportunity to put the Palestinian issue back on right track.
Arab foreign ministers will discuss situation in the Palestinian territories, the peace process and the current conditions in Gaza Strip, said the spokesman.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit will explain Egypt's vision of the Palestinian situation since 2006, particularly the Egyptian efforts on maintaining the truce between Israel and Palestinian militant groups and hosting an inter-Palestinian unity dialogue, added Zaki.
During the past three weeks, scores of rockets have been fired at Israel and over a dozen Palestinian militants have been killed by Israeli troops.
The recent flare-up has triggered worries that the Egypt-brokered truce between Israel and Palestinian militant groups in and around Gaza might collapse before its first phase of six months expires in December.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Islamic Hamas movement boycotted an Egyptian-hosted dialogue which was due to start early this month, citing the continuation of a Fatah-led clampdown against its members in the West Bank.
