Peruvian president hopes more investment from Singapore

    LIMA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Peruvian President Alan Garcia said Saturday that he hoped more investment would come from Singapore.

    Garcia voiced the hope when he greeted Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who was in Peru's capital Lima for the16th Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting on Satursday and Sunday.

    The president said he expected more investment from Singapore in such fields as port, technology, hotel and airport service. Lee, for his part, called on entrepreneurs of both countries to boost their relations.

    He said the global financial crisis has not only brought enormous challenges but also opportunities for growth, and the two countries have a great potential to join hands for a win-win outcome brought by investment and trade. Peru and Singapore was in a negotiation for a deal to promote cooperation on air transportation, Lee said.

    Singapore's investment in Peru totaled some 123.5 million U.S. dollars, according to Peru's official Andina news agency.
