MANILA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's plane has made an emergency landing in Japan because her husband suffered a heart attack, local media quoted Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita as saying on Friday night.
In a radio interview, Ermita said First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo had been ill on a chartered Philippine Airlines flight with the president.
The report, first aired over local radio station dzBB, said that First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo was rushed to a hospital. Ermita confirmed that the First Gentleman had a heart attack on the plane.
Local TV news network GMA News quoted officials close to the president as saying that Mr. Arroyo seemed to be stable. Philippine Embassy officials in Japan were on a standby.
The Arroyos, together with top government officials, were heading for Lima, Peru for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
