Special: President Hu Attends Financial Summit, APEC Meeting, Visits Four Nations  

    LIMA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- China and Peru have decided to establish a "strategic partnership" as their increasingly enhanced relationship is at its optimal time, said a China-Peru joint press communique issued here on Wednesday.

    The communique was issued as Chinese President Hu Jintao is in Lima for a state visit to Peru and for the Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum slated for Nov. 22-23.

    The communique said the two sides, within the framework of the strategic partnership, will deepen political ties of mutual trust and equality, expand mutually-beneficial, win-win and pragmatic cooperation, promote exchange in various fields and maintain close and friendly cooperation at different levels.

    The Peruvian government has reiterated its respect for and recognition of the People's Republic of China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its adherence to the one-China policy, according to the communique. In return, China has voiced its appreciation for Peru's position.

    In addition, the communique said Chinese President Hu and his Peruvian counterpart Alan Garcia have been satisfactory with their bilateral economic and trade ties.

    Stressing the complementarity between the two countries' economy and trade and the cooperation potential in this regard, the two leaders pledged joint efforts to optimize commodity structure in bilateral trade and expand cooperation in mining, oil, telecommunications, fishing and infrastructure, the communique said.

    Peru is one of China's major trading partners in Latin America, with two-way trade volume totaling 6 billion U.S. dollars in 2007. 



Chinese president arrives in Peru for state visit, APEC meeting

    LIMA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said on Wednesday that his state visit to Peru would give an impetus to the development of the comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and the South American nation.

    Hu flew into in Lima on Wednesday from Havana after concluding a state visit to Cuba. He will also attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled for Nov. 22-23 in the Peruvian capital. Full story

VP: Chinese president's visit to Peru to boost bilateral ties 

  LIMA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's upcoming visit to Peru and participation in the APEC economic leaders' meeting will boost bilateral ties between Peru and China, Peruvian First Vice President Luis Giampietri said Wednesday.

    Peru and China have kept a traditional friendly relationship, and Hu's visit will be a good opportunity to boost bilateral relations, Giampietri told Xinhua. Full story

Peruvian press hails Chinese president's upcoming visit 

   LIMA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Peruvian newspapers Wednesday hailed the upcoming official visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao, who was due to arrive in Lima later in the day as the first Chinese president to visit the Latin American country.

    National daily La Republica ran a front-page picture of a smiling Hu waving to a crowd, with two huge red Chinese characters "Huan Ying" (welcome) on the top of page. Full story

Chinese president ends visit to Cuba, flies to Peru for APEC meeting

   HAVANA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao concluded his state visit to Cuba Wednesday and left for Lima, Peru to continue his five-nation trip, in which he will attend the Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Cooperation Organization (APEC) scheduled for Nov. 22-23.

    This was President Hu's second state visit to the Latin American country since his first in November 2004. Full story

APEC Ministerial Meeting kicks off in Lima

    LIMA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The 20th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting started in the Peruvian capital on Wednesday, to make final preparations for the APEC Leaders' Meeting on the weekend.

    The two-day ministerial meeting, held at the National Museum in Lima, will discuss global economic issues, APEC's support for the WTO Doha Round negotiations and the APEC regional economic integration, Peruvian International Trade and Tourism Minister Mercedes Araoz said at the opening session.
