RIGA, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania's newly elected parliament has chosen National Resurrection Party leader Arunas Valinskas as its new speaker, according to reports reaching here from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius.
The 141-member parliament, the Seimas, elected Valinskas, the sole candidate for the post, by a vote of 79 to 58 in a second ballot late Monday, after he failed to get a majority in the first vote.
The new parliament convened on Monday its first session since last month's election, in which the Homeland Union-Christian Democrats claimed victory and formed a four-party center-left coalition with the National Resurrection Party, the Liberal Movement and the Liberal and Center Union.
