MACAO, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Team Jebsen's Darryl O'Young won the inaugural Macao Grand Prix GT Cup from lights to flag on Sunday, dominating the race in his Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car.

    The Hong Kong driver Young, who timed 31 minutes 01.710 seconds to win the title, was joined on the podium by Briton Danny Watts with 31:03.830, also in a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car, and Japan's Keita Sawa in a Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 who had a race time of 31:10.891.

    Portugal's Cesar Campanico in a Ferrari F360 Challenge and Hong Kong's Samson Chan Kai Yiu in a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup M were fourth and fifth respectively, while local favorite Rodolfo Avila was forced to retire mid-way through the 10-lap race with mechanical problems.

    O'Young dominated from the start, establishing a gap of nearly three seconds from Watts by the end of the first lap, and extended the gap to nearly six seconds before the Safety Car was called out on lap six. As racing resumed, O'Young was off again, roaring unchallenged to the chequered flag.

    "This was almost a perfect race for me. My biggest concern had been getting into traffic in the later laps of the race, but when the Safety Car came out, I didn't have to worry about that. We had good pace the entire weekend, and the car was fantastic," said O'Young.

    Watts, also a two-time winner at Macao, found no chance to challenge O'Young during the whole race.

    "Darryl's power advantage was so huge. My car was great through the mountain bits, but on any straight Darryl was able to blow us away, and I never had a chance unless he made a mistake," said Watts.
