Conflicts claim 15 lives in Afghanistan

    KABUL, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Conflict and violent incident have claimed the lives of over a dozen people including 12 suspected insurgents in Afghanistan, officials said Saturday.

    "Operation against Taliban fighters left 12 militants dead and 20 others wounded in Syedabad district of Wardak province on Friday night," Adam Khan Seerat, the spokesman for provincial administration, told Xinhua.

    Taliban local commander Mullah Asif was injured during the operation backed by air power, he further said.

    Taliban outfit has yet to make comment.

    In another incident, unknown armed men opened fire on a car in Ismael Khil district killing three persons including a local engineer of local company, district chief Daulat Khan Qayumi told Xinhua but did not give more details.

    Wardak, 35 km west of Afghan capital Kabul, has witnessed increase in Taliban activities over the past several months.

    More than 5,000 people with some 2,000 of them civilians have been killed so far this year in Afghanistan. ¡¡

 
Coalition forces kill 10 militants in E Afghanistan

    KABUL, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The U.S.-led Coalition forces on Friday killed 10 militants during an operation to disrupt the Haqqani improvised explosive device (IED) and foreign fighter network in eastern Afghan province of Paktya, said a Coalition statement released here on Saturday.

    Coalition forces targeted several Haqqani leaders and foreign fighters in Zadran District, who were known to plan and conduct IED attacks, the statement said. Full story
