1 injured in Japan nuke fire, no radiation leak

    TOKYO, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- A 43-year-old male worker sustained burns Thursday as a fire broke out Thursday afternoon at a building housing a reactor in the Onagawa nuclear power plant in Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku Electric Power Co. said.

    The fire was put out in about 50 minutes and there was no radiation leak outside the facility at the plant, Kyodo News Agency quoted the operator as saying.

    The fire started at around 2:00 p.m. at the plant's No. 1 reactor, which has been undergoing regular checkups since February, Tohoku Electric said.

    Kyodo said the worker was in a welding operation inside the building, and the filter in the air conditioning system might have caught sparks from the welding.

    The injured worker suffered no serious injuries and is able to walk on his own, the operator said.

IAEA to re-examine Japanese nuclear power plant

    VIENNA, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- An International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) team of up to 10 international experts will visit Japan from Dec. 1-5 to review the ongoing assessment of the impact of an earthquake that hit the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant last year, an IAEA press release said Tuesday.
