WARSAW, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Serbian President Boris Tadic said here on Wednesday that Serbia wanted to join the EU but was not going to give up steps in defense of its integrity.

Speaking after a meeting with Polish President Lech Kaczynski, Tadic said Serbia will not give up its strategic goals, one of which is the EU membership.

But at the same time Serbia will not give up steps in defense of its integrity, which Kosovo is part of, Polish news agency PAP quoted Tadic as saying.

In this context Seria welcomes an EU mission in Kosovo being convinced that it will observe the neutrality principle which will be confirmed by the UN Security Council, Tadic said.

The president expects that the Polish side will support this position.

"I want to state here that unacceptable for Serbia are any changes to agreements reached by Serbia with the United Nations, independently of Pristina's wishes or desires concerning the matter," Tadic stressed.

The Polish president, on his part, stressed Poland supported Serbia's EU bid and declared Poland was ready to get involved in the Balkan affairs "if there was such a need."

Tadic said the Serbian side expected not only the continuation but also further development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
